Integrative Oncology is a universal tendency to effectively treat patients by integrating both evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) and Conventional Medicine, such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Korea is well known for its' use of Traditional Oriental Medicine in treating patients, and 20 years have passed since the concept of alternative medicine was first introduced in Korea through our center.

Though considerable numbers of evidence-based medicine research papers have been published under strict scientific methodology, current domestic medical system faces much adversity; Conventional and Oriental Medical systems are not yet fully integrated, and mainstream doctors lack interest in integrative oncology as the number of the researchers in the field is scarce. We have to keep in mind the medicine exists primarily for patients.

Provided that the patients have access to the ocean of abundant medical research, they are sure to go for the most effective and proven treatment modality of all. With many different approaches that is being made and with emphasis on academic and evidence based approach, I firmly believe an ultimate treatment protocol could be reached and clinically applied in the future. Furthermore, integrative oncology research will serve as guidance light for CAM doctors to familiarize with medical research and help them determine whether their treatment is going in the right direction, as well as providing them with solid foundation for the treatments that they offer.

Established in 1991, East-West Cancer Center is Korea's first oriental medicine cancer center, providing integrative cancer care to patients with its 20 years of dedication in the areas of research, clinical services, and education. With its solid foundation in Korea and growing reputation in international communities we anticipate for the bright future ahead, "Until we are FREE from CANCER".
