What is Best Cases Series Program?
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is committed to finding innovative, promising treatments for people with cancer. The NCI's Office of Cancer Complementary and Alternative Medicine (OCCAM) coordinates the Institute's research program in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Since 1991, the NCI has had a process for evaluating data from CAM practitioners that involves the same rigorous scientific methods employed in evaluating treatment responses with conventional medicine. This process, called the, provides an independent review of medical records and medical imaging from patients treated with unconventional cancer therapies
Cases from Dunsan Oriental Hospital of Daejeon University East-West Cancer Center is to be the first BSC program in Korea (January 2007, additional May 2008)
Dunsan Oriental Hospital of Daejeon University East-West Cancer Center had passed the final decision to be the Best Case Series (BCS) Program. Summaries of 6 cases in which patients showed longer survival without progression and were treated with WBT without conventional treatments were submitted for review to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Office of Cancer Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Each case was then classified by the NCI review panel with pathologic confirmation of disease and radiological confirmation of complete response or partial response not attributable to conventional treatments. 6 cases were consider out of 10 cases which was introduced and finally 1 cases has been confirmed to be 'persuasive case', and 3 cases has been selected to be 'supportive case'.
A joint research is preceded with NCI, which they requested to give additional base case series with survival rate of lung cancers above stage 3b.
The cases of Cancer Therapy by Oriental medicine treatment from Dunsan Oriental Hospital of Daejeon University East-West Cancer Center have been to be the first BSC program in Korea and also the second in Asia (the first BCI in Asia is India P Banerji's homeotherapy).
